Chapter 7: The Face in the Photograph

Nobody touched the photograph.

Nobody even breathed.

It sat on the dusty wooden shelf beneath the old cassette player, surrounded by decades of memories and secrets.

But the face staring back at them felt impossible.

Emily stepped closer.

Her eyes moved over the faded picture.

The person standing beside Daniel and Hammer.

The person smiling like they belonged there.

The person who had been part of their lives.

“No,” Emily whispered.

Daniel looked at her.

“You know him.””

She didn’t answer.

Because admitting it would make everything real.

Hammer reached for the photograph.

His hand stopped halfway.

“Who is it?””

Emily looked at him.

The fear in her face answered before her words did.

“Your old president.””

The room went silent.

Hammer’s expression changed.

“Thomas?””

Emily nodded slowly.

The name seemed to carry weight.

Not anger.

Not surprise.

Something deeper.

Betrayal.

Hammer took the photograph.

The younger version of himself stared back from thirty years ago.

Beside him stood Daniel.

And beside them stood Thomas Reed.

The man who had led their motorcycle club.

The man Hammer trusted more than anyone.

The man who taught him that loyalty was everything.

“No,” Hammer said.

Daniel watched him carefully.

“I didn’t want to believe it either.””

Hammer looked up.

“You knew?””

Daniel nodded.

“I suspected.””

“And you disappeared instead of telling me?””

Daniel’s jaw tightened.

“I needed proof.””

Hammer threw the photograph onto the table.

“Thomas was my brother.””

Daniel looked at him sadly.

“That’s exactly why he was able to hurt you.””

Emily watched the two men.

She realized something.

The betrayal wasn’t just about a club.

It was about family.

The people they trusted most.

Noah sat quietly on an old chair, listening.

“Why would he do that?””

Everyone looked at him.

Daniel walked over.

“Sometimes people want power more than they want love.””

Noah frowned.

“That doesn’t make sense.””

Daniel smiled sadly.

“You’re lucky.””

“Why?””

“Because you still believe people choose love first.””

The words hurt Emily.

Because that was the Daniel she remembered.

The man who always saw good in everyone.

Even when they didn’t deserve it.

Hammer picked up another document from the hidden room.

“This explains the symbol.””

Daniel nodded.

“Thomas created it.””

Emily looked confused.

“The symbol?””

Daniel pointed at Noah’s drawing.

“It wasn’t just a mark.””

He opened the folder.

“It was a warning.””

Inside were photographs of locations, names, and dates.

Hammer studied them.

“This is everything.””

Daniel nodded.

“Thomas was using the club to move information.””

Emily looked at the papers.

“Information about what?””

Daniel hesitated.

“People.””

The answer made her uncomfortable.

“Selling secrets?””

“Yes.””

Hammer looked furious.

“And my club was helping him.””

“No.””

Daniel looked at him.

“Your club was being used.””

Hammer stared at the floor.

For years, he had built his entire identity around loyalty.

Around protecting his brothers.

And now he was realizing someone had used that loyalty against him.

A sound came from outside.

Everyone froze.

The garage door creaked.

Daniel immediately reached for the old flashlight on the table.

Hammer moved in front of Emily and Noah.

The door opened slowly.

A figure stepped inside.

Everyone prepared for a fight.

Then a familiar voice spoke.

“Put that down.””

Hammer froze.

The woman standing there was older.

Her hair was gray.

Her face carried years of worry.

But Emily knew her.

“Mrs. Reed?””

The woman looked at her.

Then at Daniel.

“I knew you would come here.””

Hammer lowered his hand.

“What are you doing here?””

Thomas Reed’s wife looked at him with sadness.

“I’m trying to stop what my husband started.””

Nobody spoke.

Daniel stepped forward.

“Where is he?””

Mrs. Reed looked away.

“That’s the problem.””

“What?””

“He knows you’re alive.””

Hammer’s expression hardened.

“How?””

The woman swallowed.

“Because he was the one who kept you alive.””

The room became silent.

Emily frowned.

“What does that mean?””

Mrs. Reed looked at Daniel.

“Thomas never wanted you dead.””

Daniel stared.

“Then why did he make everyone believe I was?””

Her voice broke.

“Because someone else gave him an order.””

Hammer stepped closer.

“Someone above him?””

Mrs. Reed nodded.

Daniel’s face changed.

“Who?””

Mrs. Reed looked toward Noah.

And fear appeared in her eyes.

“The person who wanted the truth buried wasn’t trying to destroy your family.””

She whispered.

“They were trying to protect their own.””

Emily felt cold.

“What are you saying?””

Mrs. Reed looked at Daniel.

“Your father wasn’t investigating Thomas.””

She paused.

“He was investigating someone in your family.””

Nobody moved.

Daniel’s voice became quiet.

“Who?””

Mrs. Reed looked at Hammer.

May you like

And said the name that broke everything.

“Your father.””
