Chapter 4

Sienna did not know the whole truth.
She thought Grant was separating from me because our marriage had quietly ended.
She did not know he had abandoned me in the ICU.
She did not know he had signed divorce papers while our children fought to breathe.
When the news reached her, she called me.
At first, I did not answer.
Then I did.
“Claire,” she said, crying, “I didn’t know.”
“You knew he was married.”
“I knew he said he was leaving you.”
“He said that while I was unconscious after giving birth to his children.”
Silence.
Then she whispered, “Oh my God.”
Sienna sent Amanda messages Grant had written to her.
Messages proving the affair had lasted nearly two years.
Messages discussing money.
One made Amanda sit up straight.
Grant had promised Sienna access to funds that belonged to my father’s trust.
He had been planning to transfer money before the divorce was finalized.
Not only had he cheated.
He had been stealing.
The board suspended him the same day.
Grant called me twenty-three times.
I did not answer.
I was busy learning how to hold three tiny babies at once.
I named them Emma, Rose, and Noah.
When I held them, I remembered why I had to fight.
Not for revenge.
For their future.
May you like
For mine.
For the truth.
