Chapter 10

On the triplets’ third birthday, we had a small party in our backyard.
My mother made too much cake.
My friends filled the house.
The children ran through the grass, laughing so loudly that the neighbors smiled over the fence.
At sunset, I sat on the porch with my three babies in my lap.
They were no longer babies, not really.
But they would always be the three hearts that brought me back to life.
Emma leaned against me.
“Mommy happy?” she asked.
I looked at all three of them.
“Yes,” I said.
And I meant it.
I was happy.
Not because my past had been fair.
Not because Grant had suffered.
But because I had survived.
I had woken up.
I had protected my children.
I had found the courage to choose a life where love did not come with fear.
Grant thought his signature would set him free.
Instead, it exposed him.
And while he lost everything he built on lies, I gained something he could never buy.
A home filled with safety.
May you like
Three children who knew they were loved.
And a future that finally belonged to me.
