Chapter 6

The fallout was immediate and devastating.

When the news broke—that Reginald Whitfield, the man who had told everyone he could not have children, was indeed the father of my son—everything unraveled.

Vivian called him screaming. She felt betrayed. She realized he had manipulated her. Lied to her. Used her as a pawn in his own game. She cut him off completely. Refused to speak to him.

His board members called emergency meetings. If he had lied about this, what else had he lied about? His health? His business dealings? His entire succession plan?

Investigators started looking. Questions were asked. The empire began to shake.

Reginald called me again. This time, his voice was broken. Desperate.

“Call it off,” he said. “Please. We can make a deal. Anything you want. Just make it stop.”

“I don’t want your money, Reginald,” I said quietly. “I want what you took from me. My home. My dignity. The choice to be treated like a human being rather than a problem to be disposed of. And I want my son to know the truth: that his father chose power over him. That was your choice. Not mine.”

I hung up.

And then I filed for divorce—on grounds of cruelty, fraud, and constructive abandonment.

Fletcher negotiated a settlement that would secure my son’s future forever. Half of everything. Trust funds. Protection. Security. Not because I wanted to take from Reginald—but because my son deserved what had been stolen from him.
